International Association for Indigenous Aging (IA2)

The International Association for Indigenous Aging (IA2) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit focused on improving the health and well-being of American Indian, Alaska Native, and other indigenous peoples as they move through the aging spectrum.

  • We help people and programs figure out how to competently and effectively access and serve Native American elders.
  • We work to advance both knowledge and practice, and promote engagement at all levels – national, regional, and local. Responding to the needs of those we serve.
  • We generate research, convene stakeholders to identify novel approaches to cross-cutting issues and work to bridge the gap between policy, research and practice.

We acknowledge and advocate for recognition of the history, sovereign nation status, rights, cultures, and value of indigenous people and tribal communities.

IA2 has a 5-year U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded Healthy Brain Initiative project establishing the organization as a national hub for dementia information resources serving Indian country, Alaska Native communities, and urban Indian populations. In addition, IA2 partners with multiple tribal communities serving as a third party evaluator for dementia focused direct-service products using principles and approaches of indigenous evaluation to guide our work.
