Two Dozen LEAD Organizations Urge Secretary Sebelius to Embrace Advisory Council’s Recommendations for National Alzheimer’s Plan

As U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius works toward the mid-May release of America’s first-ever “National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease,” a wide cross section of LEAD member organizations recently joined together to support the full set of recommendations by the Advisory Council on Research, Care and Services–highlighting a collective sense of urgency for the forthcoming plan to embrace the recommendations to the greatest extent possible.

LEAD’s co-facilitators, Eric J. Hall and George Vradenburg, both sit on the federally-appointed council, which has been advising on the development of the national plan. LEAD has also weighed in, incorporating valuable input from its stakeholders. President Obama has made an historic commitment to establish the aggressive and urgently needed goals of preventing and effectively treating Alzheimer’s disease by 2025, enhancing care quality and efficiency, and expanding supports for individuals with dementia and their families.  The Advisory Council’s recommendations would strengthen our national capacity to meet the ambitious and achievable goals.
